3.Followtheproblem-resolutionprocedures.
Thefourproblem-resolutionproceduresarepresentedintheorderinwhichtheyaremostlikelytosolve
yourproblem.Followtheseproceduresintheorderinwhichtheyarepresented:
a.Checkforandapplycodeupdates.
Mostproblemsthatappeartobecausedbyfaultyhardwareareactuallycausedbytheserver
rmware(formerlyBIOSrmware),devicermware,ordevicedriversthatarenotatthelatestlevels.
1)Determinetheexistingcodelevels.
InDSA,clickFirmware/VPDtoviewsystemrmwarelevels,orclickSoftwaretoview
operating-systemlevels.
2)Downloadandinstallupdatesofcodethatisnotatthelatestlevel.
Important:Someclustersolutionsrequirespeciccodelevelsorcoordinatedcodeupdates.If
thedeviceispartofaclustersolution,verifythatthelatestlevelofcodeissupportedforthe
clustersolutionbeforeyouupdatethecode.
Todisplayalistofavailableupdatesforyourserver,gotohttp://www.lenovo.com/support.
Whenyouclickanupdate,aninformationpageisdisplayed,includingalistoftheproblemsthat
theupdatexes.Reviewthislistforyourspecicproblem;however,evenifyourproblemisnot
listed,installingtheupdatemightsolvetheproblem.
b.Checkforandcorrectanincorrectconguration.
Iftheserverisincorrectlycongured,asystemfunctioncanfailtoworkwhenyouenableit;ifyou
makeanincorrectchangetotheserverconguration,asystemfunctionthathasbeenenabled
canstopworking.
1)Makesurethatallinstalledhardwareandsoftwarearesupported.

system,optionaldevices,andsoftwarelevels.Ifanyhardwareorsoftwarecomponentis
notsupported,uninstallittodeterminewhetheritiscausingtheproblem.Youmustremove
nonsupportedhardwarebeforeyoucontactLenovooranapprovedwarrantyserviceprovider
forsupport.
2)Makesurethattheserver,operatingsystem,andsoftwareareinstalledandcongured
correctly.
Manycongurationproblemsarecausedbyloosepowerorsignalcablesorincorrectlyseated
adapters.Youmightbeabletosolvetheproblembyturningofftheserver,reconnectingcables,
reseatingadapters,andturningtheserverbackon.See“Checkoutprocedure”onpage13
forthe
instructionstoperformthecheckoutprocedures.
Iftheproblemisassociatedwithaspecicfunction(forexample,ifaRAIDharddiskdrive
ismarkedofineintheRAIDarray),seethedocumentationfortheassociatedcontrollerand
managementorcontrollingsoftwaretoverifythatthecontrolleriscorrectlycongured.
ProblemdeterminationinformationisavailableformanydevicessuchasRAIDandnetwork
adapters.
