Thememorymodulemightbeveryhot.Turnoffthecomputerandwaitthreetove
minutestoletthecomputercoolbeforeopeningthecomputercover.
Thissectionprovidesinstructionsonhowtoreplaceamemorymodule.
Yourcomputerhas6slotsforinstallingorreplacingDDR3UDIMMs(doubledatarate3errorcorrectioncode
unbuffereddualinlinememorymodules).
Wheninstallingorreplacingmemorymodules,usethefollowingguidelines:
•AlwaysinstallDIMMsinthenumericalorderprintedonthesystemboard(DIMM1,DIMM2,DIMM3,
andsoon).
•Installmemorymodulesintothebluememoryslotsrst.Installmemorymodulesintotheblackmemory
slotsonlyafterallthebluememoryslotsareoccupied.
•BesuretoinstallmemorymodulesstartingwiththememoryslotsadjacenttotheCPU.
Toremoveorreplacethememorymodule,dothefollowing:
1.Removethecomputercover.See“Removingthecover”onpage78.
2.Locatethememorymoduleslots.See“Locatingpartsonthesystemboard”onpage81.
3.Removethememorymodulebeingreplacedbyopeningtheretainingclips.
4.Positionthereplacementmemorymoduleoverthememoryslot.Makesurethenotch1onthememory
modulealignscorrectlywiththeslotkey2onthesystemboard.Pushthememorymodulestraightdown
intotheslotuntiltheretainingclipsclose.See“Installingorreplacingamemorymodule”onpage116.
