Youcaninstallorreplaceadrivewithoutturningoffthestoragearray,whichhelpsyouavoidsigniﬁcant

interruptiontotheoperationofthesystem.

TheEMIintegrityandcoolingofthestoragearrayareprotectedbyhavingalldrivebayscoveredor

occupied.Thenumberoftheinstalleddrivesinyourstoragearrayvariesdependingonthestoragearray

model.Thevacantbaysareoccupiedbydummydrivetrays.Whenyouinstalladrive,savetheremoved

dummydrivetrayfromthedrivebayintheeventthatyoulaterremovethedriveandneedthedummy

drivetraytocovertheplace.

Attention:AnunoccupieddrivebaywithoutanyotherprotectionmightimpacttheEMIintegrityandcooling

ofthestoragearray,whichmightresultinoverheatingorcomponentdamage.TomaintaintheEMIintegrity

andcoolingofthestoragearray,installanewdriveassoonasyouremovethefailingoneorthedummy

drivetray.

Beforeyoubegin,reviewthefollowingdriveinstallationrules:

•Followtheorderofthedrivebayswheninstallingadrive.See“Frontviewofthestoragearray”onpage

tolocatethedrivebaysinyourstoragearray.

•Fordriveswithdifferentcapacities,installthedrivebyfollowingtheorderofthedrivebaysaswellasthe

orderfromthelowestcapacitytothehighestcapacity.

Beforeyoubegin,printalltherelatedinstructionsorensurethatyoucanviewthePDFversiononanother

computerforreference.

•Ifyouareinstallinganewdrive,refertothedriveinstallationrulesinthistopicandlocatethe

appropriatedrivebay.Then,pressthecircledarea
