Beforeyouusethestoragearray,ensurethatyoureadandunderstandthefollowingprecautions:
Beforeusingtheproduct,ensurethatyoureadandunderstandthemultilingualsafetyinstructionsandthe
LenovoLimitedWarranty(LLW)onthedocumentationDVDthatcomeswiththeproduct.Readingand
understandingthesafetyinstructionsreducestheriskofpersonalinjuryanddamagetoyourproduct.
Beforeyouinstalloptionalhardwaredevices,ensurethatthestoragearrayisworkingcorrectly.Ifthe
storagearrayisnotworkingcorrectly,seeChapter7“Troubleshootinganddiagnostics”onpage59

Observegoodhousekeepingintheareawhereyouareworking.Putremovedcoversandotherparts
inasafeplace.
Donotattempttoliftanobjectthatyouthinkistooheavyforyou.Ifyouhavetoliftaheavyobject,
observethefollowingprecautions:
Ensurethatyoucanstandsafelywithoutslipping.
Distributetheweightoftheobjectequallybetweenyourfeet.
Useaslowliftingforce.Nevermovesuddenlyortwistwhenyouliftaheavyobject.
Toavoidstrainingthemusclesinyourback,liftbystandingorbypushingupwithyourlegmuscles.
Ensurethatyouhaveanadequatenumberofproperlygroundedelectricaloutletsforthestoragearray,
monitor,andotherdevices.
Backupallimportantdatabeforeyoumakechangestodrives.
Youdonothavetoturnoffthestoragearraytoinstallorreplaceahot-swappowersupplyorahot-swap
harddiskdrive.However,youmustturnoffthestoragearraybeforeperforminganystepthatinvolves
installing,removing,orreplacingnon-hot-swapdevicesorcomponents.
Whenyouarefinishedworkingonthestoragearray,reinstallallsafetyshields,guards,labels,andground
wires.
Handlingstatic-sensitivedevices
Attention:Donotopenthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainsthenewpartuntilthedefectiveparthasbeen
removedfromthestoragearrayandyouarereadytoinstallthenewpart.Staticelectricity,althoughharmlesstoyou,
canseriouslydamagestoragearraycomponentsandparts.
Anystoragearraypartcontainingtransistorsorintegratedcircuits(ICs)shouldbeconsideredsensitiveto
electrostaticdischarge(ESD).ESDdamagecanoccurwhenthereisadifferenceinchargebetweenobjects.
ProtectagainstESDdamagebyequalizingthechargesothatthemachine,thepart,theworkmat,andthe
personhandlingthepartareallatthesamecharge.
