Yourserverhasaspecialtypeofmemorythatmaintainsthedate,time,andconfigurationinformationfor
built-infeatures.Thecoin-cellbatterykeepstheinformationactivewhenyouturnofftheserver.The
coin-cellbatterynormallyrequiresnochargingormaintenancethroughoutitslife;however,nobatterylasts
forever.Ifthecoin-cellbatteryfails,thedate,time,andconfigurationinformation,includingpasswords,are
lostandanerrormessageisdisplayedwhenyouturnontheserver.

Dangerofexplosionifbatteryisincorrectlyreplaced.
Whenreplacingthelithiumcoincellbattery,useonlythesameoranequivalenttypethatis
recommendedbythemanufacturer.Thebatterycontainslithiumandcanexplodeifnotproperly
used,handled,ordisposedof.

•Heattomorethan100°C(212°F)
•Repairordisassemble

Note:Afteryoureplacethecoin-cellbattery,youmustresetpasswords,resetsystemdateandtime,and
reconfiguretheserver.
1.Removeallmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandtheserver.Then,disconnectall
powercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtotheserver.
2.Prepareyourserver.See“Removingorextendingtheserverfromtherackcabinet”onpage63.
3.Removetheservercover.See“Removingtheservercover”onpage63.
4.Locatethecoin-cellbattery.See“Systemboardcomponents”onpage37.
Note:IfthereisanyPCIecardinstalledontherisercardassembly,itmightblockyouraccesstothe
coin-cellbattery.Inthiscase,youneedtocarefullylifttherisercardassemblyupsothatyoucan
accessthecoin-cellbattery.Youdonotneedtodisconnectanycablesfromtherisercardassembly
orcompletelyremovetherisercardassembly.
