•Ensurethatyouinstallthecorrecttypeofmicroprocessoroptionyourserversupports.See“Features”on
page7.Whentwomicroprocessorsareinstalled,bothmusthavethesamecorevoltageandcorespeed.
•Useanydocumentationthatcomeswiththemicroprocessoroptionkitandfollowthoseinstructionsin
additiontotheinstructionsinthistopic.
•Yourmicroprocessor,socket,andsocketcovermightlookslightlydifferentfromtheillustrationsinthis
topic.
Toinstallthesecondmicroprocessor,dothefollowing:
1.Removeallmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandtheserver.Then,disconnectall
powercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtotheserver.
2.Prepareyourserver.See“Removingorextendingtheserverfromtherackcabinet”onpage63.
3.Removetheservercover.See“Removingtheservercover”onpage63.
4.Removethecoolingshroud.See“Removingandreinstallingthecoolingshroud”onpage66.
5.Locatethemicroprocessorsocket2onthesystemboard.See“Systemboardcomponents”onpage37.
6.Openthesmallhandle1firstbygentlypressingdownthehandlealittlebitandthenpushingthehandle
inwardtoreleaseitfromthesecuredposition.Then,opentheothersmallhandle
2inthesameway.
Note:Therearetwomarksonthemicroprocessorretainer.Openthesmallhandlemarkedwith
firstandthenopentheothersmallhandlemarkedwith.Alwaysfollowthecorrectsequencewhen
youopenthesmallhandles.
