Installing an Ethernet card
To install an Ethernet card, do the following:
1. Observe all safety and ESD precautions in the Safety and Warranty Guide.
2. Turn off all peripheral devices connected to the storage system. Turn off the
storage system.
3. Disconnect the AC power cord(s).
4. Remove the enclosure cover. For instructions, see “Removing the enclosure
cover” on page 6.
5. Remove the cover bracket from a 32-bit or 64-bit PCI bus master slot. See
Appendix A, “Server board connector and header locations,” on page 39for
slot locations.
6. Insert the Ethernet card in a compatible PCI slot.
Attention: If you install a 64-bit Ethernet card in a 32-bit slot, the Ethernet
card will still function but the end of the edge connector will be exposed and
not connected. Ensure the exposed contacts do not touch anything that would
cause an electrical problem. Push the Ethernet card into the slot until the
Ethernet card is firmly seated.
7. Secure the adapter bracket with a screw, if required.
8. Repeat steps 4 through 6 for each additional Ethernet card to be installed.
9. Re-install the enclosure cover. For instructions, see “Installing the enclosure
cover” on page 7.
10. Reconnect all peripheral devices and the AC power cord(s). Power up the
storage system.
Replacing a CMOS battery
The lithium CMOS battery on the server board powers the RTC in the absence of
power. When the battery starts to weaken, it loses voltage, and the system settings
stored in CMOS RAM (for example, the date and time) may be wrong. Contact
your customer service representative or dealer for a list of approved replacement
batteries.
To replace a CMOS battery, do the following:
