ThefollowingisalistoftipsassociatedwithHardwarePasswordManagerVersion1.0:

•Symptom:Bitlockerrecoverymodeistriggeredifyouregisterasystemin

HardwarePasswordManager

thathasBitlockerencryptioninuse.

Problemdescription:IftheuserrstenablesBitLockerencryption,thenregistersinHardwarePassword

Manager,thefactthatBIOSpasswordsaresetwillcauseBitLockertofailitsintegritycheck(BIOS

passwordsarevalidatedwithinPCR1)andcausetheBitLockerRecoveryModetostartonthenextboot.

Solution:EnrollinHardwarePasswordManagerpriortoenablingBitlockerencryption.

•Symptom:SystemsthatarederegisteredofinestillshowupasregisteredintheThinkManagement

Console.

Problemdescription:WhenasystemisderegisteredbydisablingHardwarePasswordManagerinBIOS

setup,the

HardwarePasswordManagerserverisnotinformedthatthesystemwasderegistered.Thus,

theHardwarePasswordManagerservercontinuestoshowthesystemasregistered.IftheAdministrator

updatesapolicysettingortargetsaremoteactiontothederegisteredsystem,thestatusoftheactionwill

beleftinapendingstateuntilthesystemisre-registeredin

HardwarePasswordManager.Thenremote

actionsforsystemsareleftinapendingstateforlongperiodsoftime,anindicationthatthesystemmay

notberegisteredanymoreorhasnotbeenconnectedtotheintranetforalongtime.

Note:UserscannotderegisterinBIOSsetupunlesstheyareamemberoftheServiceTechor

Administratorgroup(becausetheSVPisrequiredanditisonlyreleasedforServiceTechandAdministrator

users).

Solution:Iftheuserre-registersthesystemafterderegisteringinBIOSsetup,theserverwillsyncbackup

withtheclientandwillshowthecorrectregistrationstatus.IftheAdministratorhasretiredthatsystem

andnolongerexpectsittoberegistered,theycandeletethesystemoutofthe

HardwarePassword

Managerserver.

•Symptom:IfusermovesaharddiskfromoneHardwarePasswordManagerregisteredsystemtoanother,

UserLoginwillnotworksincethenewsystemdoesnotknowthepasswordfortheharddisk.

Problemdescription:Harddiskswithpasswordssetcannotbesharedbetweenregisteredsystems.Hard

diskpasswordsarehandledasfollows:

1.Toallowforconsistencybetweendesktopandmobile,allHDPsarethesamewithinagivensystem

(eventhoughmobileBIOScouldsupportdifferentHDPswithinasystem).

2.HDPsaredifferentforeachsystem(unlessacommonHDPissetviapolicy).

3.Assumingsteps1and2aretrue,itisimpossibletoshareaHDDondifferentregisteredsystems

(sincetheassumptionistheHDPiscommonbetweenalldrivesonsystemAandwhenmovingitto

systemB,theHDPstoredinthevaultdiffers).

Solution:OnlysystemscanbesharedbetweenusersthroughtheAdminConsole(notHDDs).Thus,if

theuserwantstoshareadrivebetween2ormoresystems,therecommendationistoremovetheHDP

onthatdrive(manuallythroughBIOSsetup)orremovethedrivewheninitiallyregisteringsothatan

HDPisnotsetforthatdrive.

•Symptom:HPMclientinstallationfails.

Problemdescription:WheninstallingtheHPMclient,theinstallationfailswithLTAPI.DLLnotfoundwhen

therewallsoftwareisactive.

Solution:AsdocumentedintheLANDeskInstallationguide,disabletheantivirusandrewallprotection

duringclientagentinstallation.

•Symptom:WhentheDonotrequireCtrl+Alt+DelWindowspolicyisdisabled,

HardwarePassword

Managersinglesign-ontoWindowswillnotoccur;theuserisrequiredtoentertheirWindowscredentials.
