Maximizingbatterylife
Tomaximizethelifeofthebattery,dothefollowing:
•Usethebatteryuntilthechargeiscompletelydepleted;thatis,usethebatteryuntilthebatterystatus
indicatorstartsblinkingorange.
•Rechargethebatterycompletelybeforeusingit.Thebatteryisfullychargedifthebatteryindicatorshows
greenwhentheacpoweradapterispluggedin.
•Alwaysusepowermanagementfeaturessuchaspowermodes,screenblank,sleep,andhibernation.
Managingyourbatterypower
WithPowerManager,youcanadjustyourpowersettingstogiveyouthebestbalancebetweenperformance
andpowersaving.

Power-savingmodes
Thereareseveralmodesthatyoucanuseatanytimetoconservepower.Thissectionintroduceseach
modeandgivestipsontheeffectiveuseofthebatterypower.
Introducingthepower-savingmodes
•Screenblank.
Thecomputerdisplayrequiresconsiderablebatterypower.Toturnoffpowertothedisplay,dothe
following:
1.Right-clickthePowerManagerbatterygaugeonthetaskbar.
2.SelectPoweroffdisplay.
•Sleep.
Insleepmode,yourworkissavedtomemory,andthentheharddiskdriveandthecomputerdisplayare
turnedoff.Whenyourcomputerwakesup,yourworkisrestoredwithinseconds.Toputyourcomputer
intosleepmode,dothefollowing:
1.ClickStart.
2.ClickthetrianglemarkontherightsideoftheShutdownicon;thenselectSleep.
•Hibernation.
Byusingthismode,youcanturnoffyourcomputercompletelywithoutsavinglesorexitingfromany
applicationsthatarerunning.Whenyouenterhibernation,allopenapplications,folders,andlesare
savedtotheharddisk,andthenthecomputerturnsoff.Toenterhibernation,dothefollowing:
1.ClickStart.
2.ClickthetrianglemarkontherightsideoftheShutdownicon;thenselectHibernate.
Toresumeyoursession,pressthepowerbuttonfornomorethan4seconds.
