designedtoprovideuniqueIDsuntiltheyearA.D.3400.Notwocomputersintheworldhavethesame

number.

Whenyoureplacethesystemboard,youmustsettheUUIDonthenewsystemboardasfollows:

1.InstalltheThinkPadHardwareMaintenanceDisketteVersion1.73orlater,andrestartthecomputer.

2.Fromthemainmenu,select4.AssignUUID.AnewUUIDiscreatedandwritten.IfavalidUUIDalready

exists,itisnotoverwritten.

ReadingorwritingtheECAinformation

InformationonEngineeringChangeAnnouncements(ECA)arestoredintheEEPROMofthesystemboard.

TheelectronicstorageofthisinformationsimpliestheproceduretocheckiftheECAhasbeenpreviously

appliedtoamachine.ThemachinedoesnotneedtobedisassembledtocheckfortheECAapplication.

TocheckwhatECAshavebeenpreviouslyappliedtothemachine,usetheECAInformationRead/Write

functiononthe

ThinkPadHardwareMaintenanceDisketteVersion1.73orlater.

1.InserttheThinkPadHardwareMaintenanceDisketteVersion1.73orlater,andrestartthecomputer.

2.Fromthemainmenu,select6.SetECAInformation.

3.T oreadECAinformation,select2.ReadECA/reworknumberfromEEPROMandfollowthe

instruction.

4.T oreadboxbuilddate,select5.ReadboxbuilddatefromEEPROM,andfollowtheinstructionon

thescreen.

AfteranECAhasbeenappliedtothemachine,theEEPROMmustbeupdatedtoreecttheECA's

application.Usethe

ThinkPadHardwareMaintenanceDisketteVersion1.73orlatertoupdatetheEEPROM.

Note:OnlytheECAnumberisstoredintheEEPROM.ThemachinetypeoftheECAisassumedbethesame

asthemachinetypeofthemachinethathadtheECAappliedtoit.
