ThissectiondescribesinstallingtheRescueandRecoveryprograminanewrolloutonLenovo-branded
computers.
Preparingtheharddiskdrive
Therststeptoconsiderwhendeployingasystemispreparingtheharddiskdriveofyourdonorsystem.
Inordertomakesureyouarestartingwithacleanharddiskdrive,youmustcleanouttheMasterBoot
Recordontheprimaryharddiskdrive.
1.Removeallstoragedevices,suchassecondharddiskdrives,USBharddiskdrives,USBmemory
keysandPCCardMemoryfromthedonorsystem,excepttheprimaryharddiskthatyouaregoing
toinstallWindowson.
Attention:Runningthiscommandwillerasetheentirecontentsofthetargetharddiskdrive.After
running,youwillbeunabletorecoveranydatafromthetargetharddiskdrive.
2.CreateaDOSbootdisketteandplacethecleandrv.exeleonit.
3.Bootthediskette(onlyonestoragedeviceattached).AttheDOSprompt,typethefollowingcommand:
CLEANDRV/HDD=0
4.Installtheoperatingsystemandapplications.Buildyourdonorsystemasthoughyouwerenotinstalling
theRescueandRecoveryprogram.ThelaststepintheprocessistoinstalltheRescueandRecovery
program.
Installing
ThisrststepintheinstallationprocessistheextractionoftheInstallShieldexecutabletothec:\SWTOOLS
directory.IfyouaregoingtoinstalltheRescueandRecoveryprogramonmultiplesystems,performingthis
processonetimewillreducetheinstallationtimeoneachmachinebyroughlyone-half.
1.AssumingthattheinstallationleislocatedintherootoftheCdrive,createaleEXE_EXTRACT.cmd,
whichwillextractthelez936zisXXXXus00.exeforWindows7(whereXXXXisthebuildID)tothe
C:\SWTOOLS\APPS\rnrdirectory:
::ThispackagewillextracttheWWWEXEtothedirectoryc:\SWTOOLSforan
::administrativeinstallation.
