CompatibilitywithBitLocker
ToachievecompatibilitywithBitLockerDriveEncryption,itisrecommendedtoinstalltheRescueand
RecoveryprogramtoyouroperatingsystemafterthepartitionsareproperlysetupwiththeMicrosoft
BitlockerDrivePreparationTool.
WhensettinguptheBitLockerpartition,itisrecommendedtousetheMicrosoftBitLockerDrivePreparation
Tool.Thebootpartitionshouldbeatleast2GBinsize.
IfyoudonotusetheBitLockerDrivePreparationTooltopreparetheBitLockerpartition,youmusthavetwo
partitionsonyoursystemwheninstallingWindows7.Onepartitionshouldbe2GBandmarkedasactive;
thisiswherethebootlesreside.Theotheriswhereyouroperatingsystemisinstalledandwhereyour
datawillreside.WhenWindows7isinstalled,itwilldetectthetwopartitionsandshouldinstallonlythe
bootlestothesmallerpartition.Bothpartitionsshouldbetype0x07.
CompatibilitywithBitLockerwithoutTPM
Ifthesecuritychip(TPM)isnotactivatedintheBIOSSetupUtility,toachievecompatibilitywithBitLocker
withoutTPM,dothefollowing:
1.Rungpedit.mscfromtheStartmenu.TheGroupPolicyEditorwindowopens.
2.ClickComputerConguration➙WindowsComponents➙BitLockerDriveEncryption➙
OperatingSystemDrives.
3.EnabletheRequireadditionalauthenticationatstartupoption.
4.SelecttheoptionAllowBitLockerwithoutacompatibleTPM.
BestpracticeofBitLockerencryptiononasystemwiththeRescueandRecovery
program
TohavetheRescueandRecoveryprogramworkcorrectlywithBitLockerinWindows7,thebestpracticeis:
1.UninstalltheRescueandRecoveryprogramifithasbeeninstalled.
2.RestartthecomputerandusetheBitLockerDrivePreparationTooltopreparethesystemforBitLocker
DriveEncryption.
3.InstalltheRescueandRecoveryprogramandrestartthecomputer.
4.StartBitLockerfromControlPanelandchoosethepartitiontoencrypt.
Note:ItisrecommendedtoencrypttheWindowsoperatingsystempartition(usuallydriveC)only.
5.ClickTurnonBitLocker,andfollowtheinstructiononthescreentoencryptthechosenpartition.
Afterthat,arecoverykeyisautomaticallycreated.
6.SavetherecoverykeytoaUSBstoragedevice.
Note:KeeptheUSBstoragedeviceinasecuredplace.Therecoverykeyisneededwhenbootingto
Windows7ortheRescueandRecoveryworkspace.TheBitLockerencryptionwillbelostifthehard
diskdriveisclearedbytheDiskpartcommandsorotherharddisktools.
7.Waituntiltheencryptionprocesscompletes.Afterthat,youcanusetheRescueandRecoveryprogram
toperformbackupandrestoreoperations.
